Quantum computing is at its infancy stage but it has the potential to completely revolutionize every market sector especially those that rely on analyzing big data (research, medicine, finance, etc.) that modern computers don’t have the capability to compute. Modern computers when they were first invented were slow, expensive, and massive and no-one could have predicted the huge implications it would have on society. Similarly, quantum computers today are massive and slow but over time it will become more effective than current computers.
The S curve of regular computers have risen exponentially (low costs, more portable, faster) but it has started to level off or saturate because there is an inherent number of transistors that could be put onto regular computers. Quantum computers completely break this barrier by changing the way computers work. Quantum computers will be considered a disrupter and therefore build a new S curve that will most likely have an inflection point many times larger than the typical computer inflection point.
In theory, quantum computers will have a huge impact in an increasingly data driven global society. Quantum computing would be able to handle much more data points which would result in not only faster analysis but also more elaborate analysis that regular computers can’t do. This is crucial to research and building/testing models. For example, regular computers cannot model all the process occurring in the brain or simulate exactly how a drug will interact with all the cells in our bodies because of the overwhelming number of calculations it would have to calculate but an advanced quantum computer might be able to perform trillions of computations that could simulate exactly what will occur. In addition, quantum-powered consoles would provide a revolutionary way of experiencing entertainment.
If we could build a robot that has a human brain model it would be able to process information exponentially faster than a human brain and if combined with AI and machine learning, then the robot could become exponentially smarter than humans which could help solve some of the most serious problems that our society faces and provide remarkable innovations.
